Our Long Weekend

Well, still no baby. We've had a really long weekend with some really fun, great things and some really not fun things.

Friday started out with some labor pains, for 6 hours all morning long. But then they stopped. It's always really discouraging when this kind of thing happens. And my body seems to like doing it to me. We tried to stay super positive though, and Friday night J got to go spend some time with her grandma while Trevon, M and I went and played at my sister's house. J brought home some fun stuffed animals for her and M and baby brother. She always picks the weirdest ones. She got an Ostrich and she picked a rooster out for M.  Despite her face, she loves this thing and refuses to do anything with out it. She has the rooster sound down really well now.


Saturday ended up being a fun and busy day. We had a little get together with some neighborhood people and had some yummy food. I was still a little discouraged about the false labor (again) but visiting with other adults helps that kind of stuff a lot. It was really nice to be able to talk and get to know people better while the kids ran around. After that we went to my parents' house to play and visit some more. I love that they live so close. Then we went home and had dinner, which I can't even remember what it was, and then we decided to go out and get a little treat.


We don't do this very often, but we had a coupon for a buy one get one free frozen yogurt, so we couldn't let that deal slip by. 


M decided to take a lap around the table after every bite she had.


Then we decided to get the car washed on our way home so it would be all clean and nice when this little guy decides to come for real. As soon as she found out where we were going, M pulled the car seat cover off and hid under it. For some reason she is terrified of the car wash and tries to hide every time. 


This picture sums up all of Sunday. 12 hours of false labor people, 12 hours. Why my body does this, I'm not really sure. We aren't talking Braxton hicks contractions, this is my 3rd kid. They were real contractions. I did a lot of walking to try to get them stronger, but by 7 that night they stopped completely. 

Luckily I was exhausted enough to sleep all night that night so for memorial day we decided to go do something fun and spend some time up at the cabin. 


This is a place I hope I get to see for the rest of my life. It's one of my favorite places to be. We let the girls try to catch some fish, and run around with cousins. 


And then we hiked a little ways off and did some shooting. 



The girls both shot the .22 for their first time. 


After J said she wants to get a purple gun for her birthday. That will be a few more years, but maybe someday. I think this was my favorite gun to shoot that we have. Although, Trevon's hand gun is kinda fun too. 

The girls had fun picking up all the shells and putting them on their fingers. 


After our fun cabin day, we went down to my parents house for dinner. They recently went to Italy and got to take some cooking classes (I'm super jealous) so they decided to teach us about making pizza and gelato.

It was super yummy. Then we had gelato while we looked at their trip pictures. (Again, super jealous.) I couldn't believe how pretty some of those pictures were. My dad has gotten really into photography the last few years and he's gotten pretty good. I don't have any of his pictures to share today though, sorry. But here's the girls in the shirts they brought home for them. 



Dr appointment today, hopefully some good news on that soon.

Walking, Lots of Walking

The last few days have been mixed with a lot of emotion.  My body does this really fun thing lately where it goes into labor for several hours and then stops completely. Kind of like stalled labor...or maybe it is stalled labor, I'm not really sure. Anyway, being in labor with J was like this for 2 weeks before they decided to strip my membranes.  This time around, it started on Wednesday evening. We had gone for a fun walk with my cousin and her kids. We made it about 2 miles and then it was time to go home.  Labor started about an hour later, and we decided to see if we could keep it going and went on another little walk as a family before bed time. It did keep the contractions going, I slept for about 3 hours and then I couldn't sleep much after that, but the contractions stopped all together when I got up to get ready for the day.


I was hoping that I could get them started again even though I knew that this was exactly the same thing that happened with J. So we did a lot of cleaning in the morning and went on a picnic with the cousins. 


Nothing. So we decided to go home for a little rest.  The girls wanted a popsicle so we had an otter pop on the porch and then watched a movie while I took a little nap, because 3 hours of sleep is just not enough. 

After our quiet time, we decided to try to get something going again, so we went up to my moms and helped her weed for a second before the girls got bored, then we decided to go on a walk so my mom could finish with out so much help. 


M really wanted to push J so I let her do that, figuring that it wouldn't be a big deal since we were just going around the block. Half way around and M started throwing a little (and by little I mean huge) tantrum so I ended up having J push the stroller while I carried M kicking and screaming back to my moms. (I'm pretty sure she's just sick of going on walks). It was pretty funny now that I think about it. But it was still pretty unproductive as far as contractions go. So we hung out with my mom for a while. I did the elliptical for a little bit and then decided it was time to go find some dinner. We let the girls play after dinner while we did some small laps but still nothing...At least that meant I got a good nights rest. Today we are taking a different approach. We aren't trying anything and we will see what happens.

My Favorite Banana Bread and You'd Think I'd Learn

I love it when the girls play well together. I don't love the mess, but at least I'm not breaking up fights or telling them to stop crying and whining.


By now you'd think I would have learned that if the girls are playing nicely together, don't interrupt them. Because if I tell them it's time to clean up to go to the store or something, they are both super cranky by the time we get back and instead of playing, the fight the rest of the day.  Does this happen to anyone else?  I like getting my errands done as early as possible, but I should learn that instead of stopping them, just to let them play until the fighting starts. Maybe that way, the fighting will be done by the time we get to the store and they will play nice again after that...but maybe not. I wouldn't know because I seem to keep making this mistake. 


Like today, I stopped them from playing to go to costco. These beautiful strawberries were just one of the things on our list. We go through strawberries like nobodies business. So it's totally worth buying this giant box of them. 

When we got home, we had lunch and then the girls fought for an hour about what movie to watch for quiet time. I told them if they couldn't stop fighting and decide on one together, they would do quiet time in their room instead. Magic, the agreed on a movie after I said that. 

I love having more than one kid, but sometimes I can see the appeal in just one...less fighting and arguing, but there's much more time and attention given as a parent, where you can have them entertain each other when you have more. 

Last night, I decided to use our bananas that were starting to go bad to make some really yummy banana bread last night. I'm not a big banana fan, but this banana bread is a different story. So I thought I'd share the recipe with you today.


1/2 Cup shortening
1 Cup sugar
2 eggs
3 TBS milk
1 tsp vanilla 
2 bananas
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 bag of chocolate chips (optional)

Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, milk and vanilla with a hand mixer until smooth. Mush up bananas with a fork and mix them in the batter. Add flour and baking soda and mix until smooth. Fold in chocolate chips with a rubber spatula. Bake on 350 for 1 1/2 hours.  You could sub out the chocolate chips for nuts, if you're weird and that's your thing, or you could leave them out all together. 

This is my favorite banana bread, and besides banana pie, my favorite ways to eat bananas. This bread makes a perfect treat or breakfast side, and it's great to give as a thank you gift.  This was my breakfast this morning, a couple pieces of banana bread along with some chocolate milk. I didn't even need butter or jam on this bread, with the chocolate chips, it's perfect the way it is. 


Also, I got my first VoxBox in the mail the other day. I'll do a better review on it soon, but for now I'll just say that I'm loving the Suave cocoanut oil for my hair.

Errands and To-do Lists

This past week or so there has been a lot of the hurry up and wait feeling. I always forget when it comes down to this time in the pregnancy how hard it is to plan certain things. I start getting anxious and ready to be done. I know, I know, I'm only 37 weeks along (which is full term by the way, so I really could have him anytime and be fine, even though my due date isn't for another couple of weeks).  Anyway, this anxious feeling has been having me coming up with things to do to keep us busy.

Yesterday was a pretty nice day outside again, so we spent the morning in our little yard. I love the way my yard turns out every summer. I love the flowers and watching the apricot tree and tomato plants starting to fruit. Look how pretty our Zinnias are starting to be already! Someday I'll have room in my yard to plant them in more than just pots, but for now this makes me happy.


The girls played with the sidewalk chalk, while I read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I'm a little bit of a Harry Potter nerd, so Trevon got these books for me a little while ago so I could read them before the movie comes out. 


I was feeling all healthy at lunch time so I made sure to get a ton of fruits and vegetables in.  I had this salad and a smoothie. I'm not a big avocado fan, but like I said, I was being healthy. So I even added an avocado to the salad, and then I smothered the whole thing in ranch dressing so I could drowned out the taste...it still counts as healthy right?


We had some errands to run before my doctors appointment, so after lunch we headed to the store. And we ran into my sister and mom while we were walking in. The girls love running into them at the store because that means we all switch spots and they get to ride with their cousins. At the check out we also ran into my grandma. I love living close to family! Also, M's face in this picture...not really sure what she's doing here but it's a winner. 



The girls got to play at my mom's for a while during my appointment. There was a little progress, but not much. I got another to-do checked off of my list: pre-registering at the hospital. Because it's not fun to have to check in and fill out all the info while you're in the middle of contractions. 

I was feeling a tiny bit discouraged that I didn't make as much progress in the baby having area so after dinner we went on a walk to see if we could get any contractions started. My body does this really fun thing, though when I'm close to having a baby. I will start to have contractions but after an hour or so they stop all together. So, you know, still no baby. (Again, I know I'm only 37 weeks, but let's not put a damper on things. I'm really hoping to have this one without stripping my membranes).

Maternity update 37 weeks

I haven't done any maternity posts, except for the work out posts. I've just never been a big fan of sharing belly pictures and writing out every little detail of my pregnancy. Partially because I'm not one of those women who really love the pregnancy part of things and I feel like that would be a lot of complaining. But I decided today to give you all a little update.


Well, If nothing else, he has dropped...

I'm 37 weeks, things are feeling stretched. My time, clothes, patients, my energy, and obviously my body.

I'm craving...at the beginning of this pregnancy, it was all bread. That's all I wanted all the time. Then I wanted chocolate anything. Next was Mexican food, now it's fruit, ice cream, donuts..Mexican food always sounds good even when I'm not pregnant. Mostly everything right now.




Sleep, it's not happening much. So I guess when baby comes I wont feel too much of a difference (hopefully).

My body is hurting.  With the girls I didn't have any pelvic pain problems, but with this little guy, oh the pain is bad. I can have 2 really good days and then a week of not being able to move because my hips and pelvic muscles hurt. This is also the main reason I can't sleep anymore. (see, a lot of complaining. Let's try to be positive).

At my last appointment, they checked my cervix. I'm starting to dilate and thin out. So that's great news! Maybe we can get this little guy here a little earlier than June.

What I'm excited for: Meeting our first son, seeing what he looks like, getting to hold him in my arms and not in my stomach.  Wearing normal clothes (Remember I hate maternity clothes?). Getting back to an exercise routine.

What I still have to do: pack a bag (well the rest of it), get certain nursing essentials, and get the camera ready.



What I'm bringing this time that is different from the last times:



1. Snacks. With J I didn't mind the hospital food and I remember thinking "why do people complain? this isn't so bad. But after having M, the hospital food was not appetizing. It didn't look good, it didn't sound good and I didn't look forward to eating anything there. So this time, I'm making sure to bring a few snacks for when nothing sounds super good. That way I can eat something with out dreading it.

2. Movies and books. After being in the hospital for a couple of days, and the amount of visitors have slowed down, I get so bored. They tell you to sleep, but I really struggle taking naps. So I end up just sitting there wishing there was someone to visit with. This time, I'm taking some movies, a book and maybe even a deck of cards to entertain me while baby is sleeping and momma can't.

3. Abreva. I get cold sores when I get a fever. And the last two births, I've gotten a fever, and then a cold sore. This time I'll be taking Abreva with me so if I do get a cold sore, I can take care of it fast and not worry about giving it to the baby or having it bother me the entire time.


That's about all I have on that for now.

Preschool Graduation and a Quick Workout

This weekend was all about J finishing preschool.  She had her graduation this week so we made it a big deal and celebrated for it as a family.


First we went to dinner

Then we got her requested treat: A jamba juice


My go to at Jamba is always the Mango a go-go and I always love it. Trev tried a new guava smoothie, and the girls went with strawberries wild. 


Then it was time for her graduation.  They sang a couple of songs as a class and J was so excited about the whole thing. 


Then she got to do her solo. She chose to do Mary had a Little Lamb. I wasn't sure how well that was going to go just because she never wanted to practice at home. But she got up and SANG it instead of said it. And she did a great job. 


Then it started to rain so we had to move under the porch and finish their class songs.  M thought she was part of the whole program and insisted on being between J and her friend the entire time. She even tried to keep up with the songs. 


They are just growing up too fast. 



On Saturday I decided I'd get a quick workout in while the girls ate breakfast. So here is what I did:

20 squats
20 reversed lunges
20 push ups
1 minute break

I repeated that 3 times. It wasn't much but it was a good way for me to get moving for the morning.  Anything at this point that has to do with exercise is a win for me. 


Then I spent some time stretching before getting ready for the day.

This Weeks Pictures

It's been a while since our last daily update, so here are a few things that have been going on this week.

First, I actually got around to making and writing thank you cards from my baby sprinkle.  Let's hope they actually get delivered this time. When I got married, I wrote thank you's and then never ended up sending most of them. Sorry, if you didn't get one from my wedding or from having J. It all started with good intentions.


I did an elliptical workout the other night. And then I spent some times stretching on the ball. The good news is that I haven't had as much pelvic pain as before. 


The bad news is that now I have sciatic nerve pain and sometimes I fall down because of it haha. J thought it was super funny, M was pretty concerned about it.  I'm just going to work through it because we are almost done with this pregnancy part of things. 


We've been making a lot of smoothies lately. This was my lunch twice this week. It was delicious. Banana, strawberries, mango, and pineapple. 


I started packing my hospital bag this week. I get a little done here and there and then I forget what I need to put in it. But it will be packed before it's time to go. 


J drew this picture for her teacher as a thank you card, and said "I need to draw a picture for my teacher so I can tell her I love her." I can't believe she's done with pre-school. Now on to registering for Kindergarten.


I will share more about Hint water soon, but this flavor was surprisingly good. I don't care much for watermelon but this one hit the spot. 


We ran some errands and Costco was on the list. We like to go right in time for samples.  They happened to have Oreos for samples this week, the girls were pretty sure they hit the jackpot with those. 



After Costco, my sister offered to watch the girls for a little bit and let them play in her back yard while I finished my errands (which was target for some stuff for the hospital bag).  When we got back we played there for another hour. The girls love that she has a big back yard that they can play in the sprinklers and on her swing set in. I think we wore M out. When we got home she was pretty sad about not playing anymore, and then it got super quiet so I checked on her and found her like this. She fell asleep and slept like that for about an hour. 


Someone put a little wood swing up in a tree by our house. The girls have been loving spending the evenings playing outside and it's been really nice to be able to just sit and watch them play and enjoy the nice warm evenings. It's so fun to see them get along and play together.
